Songkran is a three-day national holiday and major water festival which marks the start of traditional Thai New Year
Songkran mainly marks the celebration of the lunar new year during which
Buddha images are bathed. Monks and elderly people receive the respect
of younger generations who sprinkle water over their hands.
Songkran is also very famous as a giant peaceful streetfighting with water for fun only, all over the country.
